PROJECT  An installation for neon light, sound, and space at the ANTI — Contemporary Art Festival. A neon sign with the text (empty space) is hanging from the ceiling in a completely dark space, giving a dim blue light to the space. A constant gently hum of the neon transformer is heard from above the neon sign. When a visitor enters the room and fills the space with movement, the light and sound goes off. When a visitor stops and pauses, the light and sound goes on again.
The work takes its name from the foundational theatre theory by Peter Book (The Empty Space, 1968). According to the theory, “all that is needed for an act of theatre to be engaged is a man walking across an empty space whilst someone is watching him”.
